How to set up email in Microsoft Outlook
These steps are for Outlook for Microsoft 365 and Outlook 2019/2021 on Windows. If you're using the new Outlook for Windows, the steps are similar under Settings › Accounts › Add account.
- Open Outlook and go to File › Add Account.
- Enter your full email address and click Connect.
- If Outlook can't find your settings automatically, click Advanced options, tick Let me set up my account manually and choose IMAP.
- Enter the following:
- Incoming mail: your server hostname, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS
- Outgoing mail: your server hostname, port 465, encryption SSL/TLS
- Click Next, enter your mailbox password and click Connect.
If sending fails
Go to File › Account Settings › Server Settings and make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is ticked and uses the same settings as incoming mail.
IMAP or POP3?
Choose IMAP unless you have a specific reason not to. It keeps your mail on the server, so it stays in sync across your phone, computer and webmail. See IMAP vs POP3.
